chapter 5

I feel that Jem and Dill are beginning to grow closer. I'm beginning to feel left out of there friendship. I decided to start spending time with my neighbor Miss Maudie Adkinson. She has a talent gardening and cake baking. She was a friend of my fathers brother, Jack. She tells me that Boo Radley is still alive. Miss Maudie also tells me that Boo was always polite and friendly as a child. Meanwhile, Jem and Dill are planning to invite Boo out to get ice cream. They tried to stick a note inside the Radley's place with a fishing pole, but my father caught them and ordered them to stop.

chapter 4

The rest of the school year passes slow for me. I feel that the stuff I have to learn in school moves way to slow and leaves me frustrated in class. After school one day, I passed the Radley's place and saw tinfoil sticking out of the knot holes on one of  Radley's oak trees. I sat for a few minutes and wondered what it was. I finally decided to go see what was in the oak tree. I found two pieces of chewing gum and decided to take it for myself. When I got home I told Jem about it and he started panicking.

On the last day of school, I heard that they found two indian headed pennies hidden in the knot hole on the oak tree.  Its summer time now and Dill returns to Maycomb. Jem, Dill and I began our games again. However, one of the first things they do is roll one another inside a tire. As the summer passes, our games become more complicated. Our father asks us if our games have anthing to do with the Radley's. Jem lies and says no. Then we wonder if it's safe to play our games anymmore.

chapter 3

I am at lunch. I am planning on doing something mean to Walter for getting me in trouble. Then Jem intervenes and invites Walter to sit with him at lunch. That day after school my family invited Walter over for dinner. Him and father are talking about farm conditions, and I begin to criticize Walter. Dalpurina calls me into the kitchen and slaps me and tells me I need to be a better host.
Back at school Miss Caroline becomes frightened when she sees a bug crawl out of a boys hair. Buris, who is even more poor than the Cunnningham's.  He only comes to school the first day every year. When Miss Caroline got frightened by him he ran out of the classroom making enough mean remarks to make Miss Caroline cry. After school I asked my father if he could teach me himself instead of going to school. He tells me the law requires me to go to school.

chapter 2

Its September, the first day of school, and I have been impatiently waiting for this day to come. I'm finally at school and I found out my teacher, Miss Fisher, is not very good with kids. I also realized I had to learn how to read before I could attend school. I felt very guilty for not being educated like all of the other students. At recess I complained to my brother Jem and he explained to me.  Miss Caroline was just trying out a new way of teaching.
